Why does my camera seem to work fine but not print a picture?

My camera died in the middle of printing a sample card. I couldn't figure out how to turn it back on and so I pulled the film out from the bottom because it had not yet reached the top. After that I replaced the batteries and try to take photos but it would not print them. It would make all the right sounds but no film would come out and when I looked back into the film chamber everything was as it was before so i can only guess nothing happened. Please help.
