Screen doesn't always turn on

When I turn on my computer, sometimes the screen wont turn on. By that I mean there is no backlight and from what I can tell, no faint picture on the LCD. I know that the computer is starting up fine since I can login and play a audio file on my desktop.

The only thing I've found that fixes it is resetting the SMU and PRAM but that doesn't always work and the next time the computer is restarted the screen usually wont turn back on.

Any suggestions for what could be a cause of it? I thought it could be the power supply, inverter or LCD but I'm not sure since it sometimes works.

Does your computer fall into this range?

Serial Number ranges:

  • W8435xxxxxx – W8522xxxxxx
  • QP435xxxxxx – QP522xxxxxx
  • CK435xxxxxx – CK522xxxxxx

Good, no bad caps issue. Now hook it up to an external monitor and see if both go out at the same time. If so it's the GPU. If not then replace the inverter (cheapest) next the screen.

I have yet to hook up a external monitor but I started it up today and the screen turned on. The interesting thing is that when the computer goes to sleep and screen turns off, when I wake it up, the screen always comes back on. I don't know if that changes what the cause could be.

What is the caps issue if the serial is in that range? Thanks
