Parts interchangeble with 5gen iPod?

I have an iPod classic 6th gen 120gb that showed nothing in the ipod but itunes said it was full, so I knocked it into recovery mode to just have a fresh start. But once i knocked it into recovery mode I always got an error message towards the end of the reformat and now it doesnt even show up in itunes at all.

I have a perfectly working iPod video 5.5 gen 30 gb -- is there any chance that any of those parts are interchangeable with the 6th gen classic? Or does anyone have a possible solution to getting iTunes to recognize the 6th and reformat/install the firmware?

The headphone jack/hold switch, hard drive cable, and hard drive are compatible. (30gb hard drive is compatible with the newer iPod, not the other way around.) If the 6th gen doesn't want to restore no matter what, you could always rip the 30gb hard drive out of the older one and give that a whirl. Alternately, there are ways to connect the iPod hard drive directly to your computer, to see if you can format it that way, using a ZIF to USB adapter. Example:here Hope it works out for you!
