Hi
I have an LG42LB550V TV. The backlight and sound does not function. If I shine a vright light on the screen I can see that the display is fine. (an image can be seen)
Before I order spares do I need a power board or a main board?

@arkham24601 the inverter circuity is on your power board. Let us know what chassis your TV is so we can look for any ideas about what may have failed on the board.
The really determination for which board to replace would depend on the voltage measurements on your power board.
If the voltages are good, it's your mainboard. If they are not, it's your power board.
Let us know what you find.

Thank you The chassis number according to the manual is either LD43B or LD44B (doesn't specify which).
I am fine with changing either board but don't want to buy the wrong one. I am confused as several parts vendors have given me conflicting information as to which one I need as both the backlight and the sound aren't working. (The optical port does light up but I have no way at the moment of testing this)

what does it show on the label of your TV? Does it give the chassis number? I'd still go with the power board ;-)
Looking inside at the mainboard, it's labelled as LC43B/LD43B/LB43T. So I'm guessing LD43B? I have a multimeter but confess to not having used one before (is it a case of one lead from the meter to a GND pin and one to the pin being tested?)
@arkham24601 that is correct. Black probe to ground Red probe to the contact. The attached images should correspond with your board, sometimes there are revisions etc. but essentially it should still be the same.
