When turned on today My Acer ZG5 loaded, showed the first two screens and stopped on the multi colored screen that says Windows Xp.The start menu never came up. I have some very important pictures on here that cannot be replaced.Can you guide me in what to do? Thank you

You can try to start in safe mode. when your computer restarts immediately after the bios/postcheck hit f8 that should bring up a menu where you can selct how to start windows.select safe Mode and that should start windwos. Ince it has started up you can check under the device manager if there are any items that show as non functioning or not recognized. It does sound like a system file error and could be resolved if you restore to an earlier date. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084 shows you how to do that. good luck and let us now if this helped ...

If oldturkeys solution does not work for you consider obtaining a external case for the hard drive. Remove your HD and install it in the case and hook to another computer to transfer your photos. I keep my photos on four different drives just in case--you might want to consider keeping yours in at least two places. Good luck.
