Engine knocking/ chatter sound

I have a 2007 john deere la125. It has a 21 hp ohv briggs. The head gasket was blown out and burning lots of oil. I replaced the head gasket and reset both valves to .005. Now the engine has a terrible noise that sounds alot like valve chatter but I have checked it 10x. The engine had a little noise before but had 300 hrs without a adjustment but its alot worse now.

Kyle Petrik, Ensure the oil level is up to max on dip stick and try running for a while if noise does not dissipate cut yourself off a piece of rubber tubing/garden hose to use as a stethoscope to hear/locate where exactly the noise is coming from probe different areas of engine(valves/crankcase,etc). If noise is coming from the valve train, you will have to maybe do a little tear down to check for(does it appear to be oiling OK), are push rods in proper position, bent/damaged push rods, worn valves/seats /guides / weak broken springs, sticking valves, rockers/ball/ worn/damaged, stud pulling from case(cracked), cam shaft worn lobe, etc.. Other issues could be damaged internal parts of engine bearings/crank/rod/piston/etc.. Links below may be of some help. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Ended up being a faulty cut out on the head gasket..small enough to be overlooked but enough to cause noise
