Can you clarify things here a bit. The speedometer its self is not working (you don't know how fast you are going) or the odometer (keeping track of your miles) is not advancing as you drive. Or both are not working.

I'd take it to an AutoZone or other Auto Parts place that provides free computer readouts and have them run one.

If you get one of these errors, they can advise you how to proceed:
