Can a iPhone 6 boot without front camera/proximity sensor

Hello,

I bought a used iPhone online, unfortunately, it wasn't exactly as described.

The iPhones misses the front cam Assembly and proximity sensor. Note that the touchID cable also has been ripped.

When testing using a test-screen I don't get further than the Apple logo. Could this be because of the missing parts?

Nope. Should still be able to boot without the parts plugged in.

You can turn on pretty most devices with a battery, screen, logic board and power button connected.

Sounds like either faulty battery or software needing to restore (If you do try to restore software using iTunes please do post the iTunes restore error code if it fails).

Can the phone be put in recovery without homebutton?

I don't think it's possible if the phone won't fully boot into iOS.

Unless someone can confirm which pins to short for the home button extension cable connector on logic board to trigger a home button press / hold.

Even weirder thing, when trying now the iPhone gets the red screen, a google showed up that this could be due to damaged proximity flex but non is attached.

Start by trying to restore it.
