Help reconnecting display cable

I'm trying to replace the LCD + digitizer. The actual replacement went OK, but I can't reconnect the very small flat cable that connects the new display to the motherboard, the part that makes the screen respond to touch. It will not stay connected. I've watched other guides very closely and it seems that the connecting piece on the motherboard is "flush" with the heatsink (the part covered with copper), but mine is set back a small ways, about 1-2mm. I also didn't get replacement yelow sticky tape on the replacement screen. I don't know if that's causing the problem. Any ideas? Does it need to be stuck down or something like that?

This is the cable I'm referring to:

Make sure nothing behind the motherboard is being obstructed by some foreign object as the board needs to clip into place as shown around the edges of the board.

Notice that some notches etching from the plastic screen / logic board frame housing clip to the logic board.

I think I did a screen replacement on this before and I had the same issue. Looks like the board just needs to be sit in properly.

I know I bent one of the clips holding the mobo, but I've tried reconnecting it even with the mobo completely disconnected from the display in an effort to give myself as much slack as possible and it still won't stay put. Is there something that locks the connector in place if the mobo is set properly?
