Why is my phone not turning on/charging?

Asking for a friend.

The night before the phone wrapped the bed, the screen was jumping from app to app without my friend doing anything. Then the next morning, it stopped working altogether. He's tried charging it on every outlet in his apartment, and nothing. The phone will not take a charge. His girlfriend had the same issue and had to have it sent back to the factory. Any ideas?
