will not power up after restore

My phone died after I had recharged it. I attempted to do a restore through iTunes which looked like it had been successful, everything had been restored, updated from a previous backup. However, when I turned the phone off and later tried to turn it back on, I got the apple symbol but then nothing!

I tried the restore process again which just repeated the outcome stated above; does anyone know how I should proceed, if I can at all, please?

I wish I could give a definite answer to what exactly causes this.

Initially it's a bad battery. Try getting that replaced first. Then second u2 Tristar charging IC which is a logic board component chip that needs to be replaced as last resort.

And if that doesn't work then it's the memory NAND flash chip which stores all user and system data (including firmware) for the phone. This is the worst one as it ends being not worth fixing (Sometimes needs the chip to be reprogrammed, reballed or replaced by someone that does microsoldering).

Thanks Ben, at the moment it will hold the information so long as I keep it charged and DON'T turn it off! I live out in the country which means I will have to make a long journey to a repairer, so until then, I will keep this baby charged. I appreciate you replying to my question, thanks.
