Why is the status bar popping up all the time?

So for the past two days or so my tablet has been glitching out a bit whenever I open an app, but it's specifically annoying when I'm on a game and the status bar pops up every 15 seconds pausing my game. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't freeze everything when it pops up.
