Can hard drives be switched?

I have a Toshiba L505D-S5983 that the screen stopped working. I didn't backup all of my files and was wondering if I could switch out my hard drive into another Toshiba L505D-S5983. Would my hard drive work? Would it allow me to backup my files? I found one for sale on Ebay.

Any information would be helpful!

Hi @vevans ,

Try connecting an external monitor to see if you get a working display on it.

If you do, you can make a backup of your files and then find out what the cause of the no display problem is on the laptop.

Yes! If the issue is only with the computer and not the hard drive then yes, you can use the hard drive on a different computer. However, if the hard drive is causing the computer to not function appropriately then replacing the hard drive on a different computer will not work because the hard drive is corrupt or consists of hardware issues.
