it starts up and then shuts down

My iPod died the other day, when i got home I plugged it in to charge. It started doing a reboot loop. That went on for about 20-30 minutes and then stopped. Now when I try to turn it on, it just shows the Apple icon and then turns off. And it will do that until I hold down the power and home buttons to turn it off. Can anyone help me?

Either system software needs to be either updated (try update first) or reset (restore if no data needed).

Otherwise probably battery gone bad.

1. Try doing an Update / Restore via iTunes or 3UTools.

If I do a restore, will that delete the stuff I have saved, like my pictures and videos?

Yes. Do update only on iTunes / or called in 3UTools flash while retaining user's data.
