time/date stamp automatically appears

I have the opposite problem - when I turn on my Canon Powershot SD890 IS the time/date stamp automatically appears, but I do not want it. It has only started doing this recently. If I hit the menu button it removes it. I have tried resetting the default options, but it still does it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
