Gas in my coolant system

My 01 ranger3.0 v6 has gas in the coolant why is that and my heater blows cold and hot when and gauge is moving up and down

@georgem1234 ,Paul . Probable cause for gas/fuel smell in coolant is a blown intake/cylinder head gasket or crack in engine block or component. This will also let air into cooling system affecting flow causing hot/cold and a lot of time over heating. Have a good local shop do a leak down test of the cooling system to locate the problem, diagnose and estimate repair. Good luck.
