Screw for blade SSD

Hello, may I confirm if all imac model starting from late 2012 (either msata or pcie SSD) use the same size screw ?

Yes its the same screw across all of the systems. But you can't use just any blade type of SSD.

Yes, the drive Apple uses looks like a M.2 SSD you could buy at the local computer store but it's not! Apple uses a custom SSD unit in their systems. You'll need to use the correct unit and presently they are hard to find and quite costly!

In addition to the part its self issue opening any of the newer 'Thin Series' iMac's is a bear! And getting to the SSD connector is likewise even harder as you need to take the logic board out to get to the other side. Unless you've opened a few of these newer systems I recommend you attempt it as just taking the display assembly off can damage it if you don't follow the IFIXIT guides to the letter!

OK what to do??

How about going with an external Thunderbolt2 RAID'ed SSD drive which is very close to the same speed of an internal PCIe connected SSD drive it is a lot safer & cheaper! And uses standard 2.5" SSD's. Here's what we use: OWC-ThunderBay 4 mini
