iPhone 7 backlights not working 24hrs after screen repair

Hi, I had done a screen replacement for an iPhone 7. Everything went very smooth and device screen turned on with no issues. Was able to reboot multiple times. Customer tested before leaving and was working great. Now, customer came back today, less then 24hrs with the backlight out. I can see the LCD if I hold it at the right angle. Any ideas on what may have happened to cause this?

Not seen yet the 7 for repair, I wonder how much you charge for this because this device is still in warranty and Apple has really good prices on screen remplacement .

Have you opened the device to check? I talk from past experiences with 5/6 screens, but where the backlight on the back of the screen is soldered, there should be a bit of electrical tape, to prevent it shorting. I know on 3rd party screens, sometimes they leave this tape missing and it can short, stopping the backlight from working.

Open and check it out, could even be a case where the customer has liquid damaged it. I would say there is a good chance it is the above though, and obviously try the usual resets.

Tape appears to be covering as it should be. Old screen did work. Another screen will arrive next week. Will update then.

it's probably faulty screen . I can't really see you blowing the Backlight filter on the logic board unless it had water damage or not properly following Electrostatic procedure and battery unplugging before working on it. Try a new screen and see if that works. It also could very well be a defective screen.

I have a similar problem. I have more symptoms. My phone’s backlight intermittently doesn’t ‘wake up.’ It has the same symptoms but if I ‘reset all’, I have an 80% chance the backlight will turn on if it is dark or the auto brightness is turned off. It is almost always enters the no backlight mode when I shut off the backlight with it set to 100% brightness. The brighter the more likely the display will be out. The dimmer the more likely the phone will wake up with the display working. With auto I would use it all morning indoor with no problems. At lunch outdoors it would fail an not reset until I went in a dark place.
