Wont charge - replacing logic board with newer one?

Hi guys, so im in a bit of a pickle and need some advice.

I have a mid 2014 2.5ghz 16gb 2gb ram 512gb ssd , slowly over the past month loosing the ability to charge. Its been dodgy for a while and now has packed up charging totally. Annoyingly as the computer works perfectly, it just wont charge.

Ive taken it into apple and they said a board change was in order, i replaced the battery, and also tried different chargers etc, also changed the magsafe to no avail.

My question is can I install a logic board from say a 2013-2015 mpb?

As it seems the design hasnt changed but im not sure if the pin terminals on all the clips are the same etc?

Secondly can i stick in the 2.8ghz in if i find one as a pose to my 2.5ghz in there currently?

If anyone could get back to me with a little list of compatable boards I can install that would be great, im really trying not to spend a huge amount on the board and have found A1389 15 retina 2.8ghz board on ebay for very little, it was just from a 2013 i believe but before i grab anything I thought to check with the guys on here .

Thanks guys

Lewis

Basically Apple sticks to a series of systems which use the same hardware. As an example in your case the MacBookPro11,2 all have interchangeable logic boards.

Sadly, the logic board you found is part of this series: MacBookPro10,1.

Would this not be suitable then? As its 11,3.

Sorry no, this is a very different design: MacBookPro11,3. These are the dual GPU models.

No worries thanks for the info Dan. Any chance you can direct me to a suitable place I can find a replacement logic board for mine. Ive searched and it says the last 4 digits of the serial number is the EEE code your looking for , for a replacement board and those are G3QD however seemingly there are lots of G3XX's but nothing ending in QD. A little push in the right direction would be marvelous if poss!! :)

Just a quick one also,I beleive the compangot the 2GB VRAM upgrade for the mac, but I believe we have a single GPU / the intergrated version. Is the dual graphics one on that ebay link better for video work as it has its own dedicated graphics card?

Just a little confused on the subject, as you said they are a different design being the dual GPU one but would that not be the best one to get for more stressing visual tasks etc?

Did you checkout the IFIXIT parts listed in the IFIXIT guide here: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2014 Logic Board Replacement

I personally never trust logic boards on eBay. They are generally water damaged, not working or something wrong with them. If it was a perfectly working board they would put it in a MacBook and sell the MacBook.
