Mac does not work when connecting HD to the internal logic board.

Hi there,

I have a problem with my mac. 2 days ago my mac just stopped (Frozen) and it was not responding to anything. I powered it down by holding the on / off button and tried to restart it. As it came back on I only had a blank screen showing a folder and a question mark.

The HD I just replaced several months ago for a Samsung EVO 850 SSD. I tried to access the drive but there is no way to restore, fix or access the drive. I got a new HD (Same one) formatted it and restored it back from an external USB drive which had a recent Time Machine backup copy. The new HD was connected to a external serial ATA to USB connector. My mac works normal running it over the USB port. Everything is exactly the same as I left it. But when I connect it back to the internal connection it will not boot up. I checked the cable from logic board to HD and that seems ok. Can anyone recommend any repair suggestions or trouble shooting ideas? I suspect it is the logic board even thought my mac runs fine running it over the USB port.

Replace the hard drive cable, you said you checked it, but I assume you didn't change it?

Commonly fails in 2009-2012 MacBook Pro 13" models.

Hi Reece I did change the cable and indeed that was the issue. My Mac is back online. Thanks for the hint, I would have not expected it be the cable, since it looked absolutely fine. Anyways thanks for the help!
