Is it possible to replace the sim sensor

I had recently bought a iPhone off a friend who had never said the phone had damage. They had stated it had normal wear and tear. When I had went to turn the phone on I was told that the sim senor inside the phone was damaged hence it didn't read any sim card the lady was placing in. Does apple give any type of repair for that? What would need to be replaced? I took the phone to a third party and they said apple would fix it for 175$, does that sound about right?

A new SIM card reader must be installed on the logic board so this requires a micro-soldering repair. IMHO, 175$ seems on the high side but it really depends on where you live.

@gigabit87898 The part cost doesn't always have much to do with the pricing of a repair. Some passives, like a ferrite bead (i.e. backlight filter) cost only a few cents but it can still be a 70-100$ repair. What's important in the final cost is the skill required, the difficulty of the repair, how much troubleshooting is required and the risk taken by the tech.

Some repairs are easy and others are quite complicated. Every time you start applying heat to the logic board, you take a certain risk of damaging something else.

For example, the SIM card reader is easily accessible (good) but requires a lot of heat (bad). Directly opposite the reader is the NAND. Too much heat and you could have problems. I would charge ~100$ but that's me. Others may have differing opinions.

Do you do repairs yourself?

Yes, check out my profile for my website and contact info. In the interest of transparency, there are several micro-solderers who are active on this forum.
