"HOLD" button issues - Sprite contamination

The end of my iPod that houses the HOLD button was accidentally dipped into Sprite a few years ago. Since then, the HOLD button has been getting progressively worse. I think it just needs to be cleaned. What tools do I need to buy and which repair guide to I need to follow to do this?

Answer this question I have this problem too

stevemoody after a few years of contamination it is unlikely that cleaning it will work. You are probably looking at a lot of corrosion. At minimum, replace the headphone jack/hold switch and clean your iPod with some high grade isopropyl alcohol. Use this guide for the repair and the part is available at places like this. Your iPod came in two flavors, thick and thin. Make sure you get the right cable.
