Internal Screen is blank; Rest of computer+external monitor works fine

Hi All,

I've got a macbook pro 2011 that i have been fixing up. I'm having a weird problem. The build in laptop screen will not turn on no matter what I do. However the laptop functions fine aside from that. When I plug in an external monitor, it works great. Stuff I have tried:

  • Reset SMC
  • Reset NVRAM/PRAM
  • Go through all display options in control panel
  • Apple Hardware diagnostic from bootup
  • Boot in safe mode
  • Boot to USB of older OSX version
  • Boot without harddrive (screen still blank)

I know it isn't the screen, as I bought a working one. Also interestinging, the screen's camera works fine, as does all the airport/bluetooth stuff that attached through the monitor.

Any ideas? I don't understand why the external monitor would work fine but not the internal. It feels like it's not even hooked up (thought I checked the connector to the logic board many times).

Thanks!

Did the system get wet or banged?

I would recommend you pop the bottom off and take some pictures of the display connector area and post them here so we can see. Also let us see the connector ends so we can see the pins clearly.
