Is this a temperature sensor issue?

Ok so the issue i am having is when i turn on the system it will run for at most a couple minutes then it gives an overheating message and a single red dot in the middle of the power button. If i turn the system on again it will only run for a couple seconds before doing the same thing again.

The error code i get when i press sync + eject is 0013 (RAM over heating)

I have already disassembled the system, cleaned out the dust and even replaced the thermal paste. But none of that has helped.

The reason i am thinking it could be a sensor issue is the fact that it will run for a minute after its had a chance to cool down but the temperature shouldn't be able to get hot enough to trigger a shutdown because the fan is working perfectly and there isnt a spec of dust in the system.

I also tried cooling it to below room temperature by throwing it in the freezer for a few minutes and after that it ran perfectly for several minutes. I was even able to load a game. But as the system wormed up to room temperature the fan slowly sped up to full speed and then the system "overheated" again.

Im considering attempting to re flow the ram chips with a heat gun but before i do i just wanted to get a second opinion first because i haven't found anyone else with this exact issue.

The system is several years old so warranty long since expired.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

For starters plz don't put electronics in the freezer, humidity in a freezer can be like 80% which isn't great for electronics.

You could always just cut a hole in the side of the case and put in a cheap fan above the ram.

Cheap fan

To power it you could solder it to one of the usb ports power contacts, or simply plug it in externally.

EDIT: Actually the fan I linked isn't the cheapest there is on aliexpress, there are far cheaper ones.

The ram chips are not overheating. There is no way they could be unless they are fried but for some reason the system thinks they are.

Well, you said yourself that it works for a while then throws the error, then when left for a while it will work for a period then throw the error again.

That would seem to me that there is an overheating issue, and that because of the error the root is the ram. The fact that it still works and hasn't "fried" is due to the systems in place that stop that kind of thing. i.e. temp cut offs that stop it bursting into flames.

Now you said yourself that you might reseat the solder on the ram, that's not a terrible idea but it comes with risks, if not done properly with the right tools, you could brick the xbox by not seating it right.

However I've seen it done with a heat gun on the back plate, you could give that go.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

Try to put a tiny heatsink and a tiny bit of thermal paste on each one of the ram chips to see if it is actually overheating.
