Screen wont power on after sleep

MBP 13 mid 2010 2.4ghz 8gb ram

I close my macbook after use just for a second, the LED sleep indicator at the front lights up in the normal breathing patten when the lid is closed, but when i open it up again the LED sleep indicator turns off {which is normal} but the screen wont come on. I literally have to manually shut it down and power it back up again. It goes through the normal apple logo boot up screen, and all my applications are still open. Can't think of what the problem would be.

First try an SMC and NVRAM reset, issues like this are usually resolved this way.

didn't seem to help. Still doesn't light screen up after I open it. Any other methods I may be missing?

Try a fresh software reinstall. I had the same problem with my 2012 13", had to press keys/power button/trackpad repeatedly, then the screen would come back on after 10-20 seconds. Recently carried out a clean install and have no issues.
