Hi all,
I have a problem with my Benq TH681 projector.
The Power LED is red after plugging in. TEMP and LAMP LEDs are off. Projector is not starting.
In the user manual I only can find "download" near the error description.
Any idea what this mean?
Firmware maybe?
Is this a good question?

@stigpfau looks like your projector is in Download mode. " In download mode, system will be
supported by full power but will not turn on projector."

Allright ;-)
But how to quit the download mode?
What happens if you unplug the projector for a while? does it reset? Have you tried to enter the same sequence to see if that will get you out of the download mode? If nothing else and at a last resort have you tried to download new firmware?
... for thos model I can't fin a firmware.
BenQ ist not very customer friendly at this point.
Where did u find the download mode info from? Do you have link to the manual?

This should not be marked as answered. It is not answered and it is not a lamp failure issue. I had it before and held down some buttons and it worked but I cannot for the life of me find where I got that information from. Benq are currently useless. If I manage to find out again I will come back and answer it properly.
Ok …
1) Disconnect all cables plugged into the projector and press the ON button for 10 seconds; (All cables unplugged).
2) After step 1, please wait 1 hour before attempting to restart;
3) Connect only the power cable, and check if the initial BenQ Logo image appears.
4) Connect all other cables.
So all cables out and hold down power for 10 seconds. I didn't wait an hour and just plugged power back in straight away. Worked. Then connect all other cables.
You have 100% got this!!!! Just keep on keeping on!

Hello,
It appears that your Lamp is in a damaged state and needs to be replaced.
It is NOT in some "Download mode" as others have stated.
Here is a table that will give all the states of the led indicators regarding your projector;

I pressed simultan the power button and volume up button and the problem gone.
Tried "pressed simultaneous power button and volume up button". Red light went away and unit powered on as expected. Problem gone. Thank you Dominique!
I pressed simultan the power button and mode/enter button and the projector started and usable but after powe off the red lamp still red.
Thats it. Red is also a nice colour.

If the red light flashes briefly and the projector doesn’t start , remove and replace the small cover where you can access the bulb. Be sure that the safety switch is pressed.

Yeah, the "Download" description isn't very helpful. I did a word search, and the only other time the word download is used in the manual is on Page 44 with the Baud Rate of the Advanced Setup Menu. Here it is talking about downloading firmware, so most likely the "Download" description you found is referring to downloading firmware as well. Unfortunately, Page 44 also says "This function is intended for a qualified service technician", and I was unable to find anything on firmware updates for your model.
