The night before my laptop was working, and i shut it down. Then the morning after when i hit the power button the computer turns on but the screen stays black.
Is this a good question?

Daniel Castano , Listen to see if you can hear the hard drive running or not(could be faulty), if it is try a reset, unplug from power, and with the machine off, remove the battery and any attached external components.
Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds and release, put battery in and attach the charger. Try to power on.
If under warranty , have repaired under warranty.
Still no go, try an external monitor, if external works the problem is with the attached screen, may be faulty or bad connection. If external monitor does not work, the problem will be on board video/card or motherboard issue usually. Just in case try reseating the Ram as shown in the 3rd link.

Also make sure to watch the video 1st link for how to diagnose your issue. If not wanting to diagnose and repair yourself, have a good local computer repair shop have a look, diagnose and estimate repair. Good luck.
