Why does it stay in overdrive?

irishdaisycb , You could have a pinched/broke wire/plug in the steering column or possibly under the truck going to transmission.

Check ((all)) your fuses interior and under hood, 5A fuse #29 under dash, fuse #23 in the engine bay are a couple from forums I have read to be an issue.

Also check to see if there are any trouble codes stored to help diagnose the fault like faulty speed sensor, solenoid pack, ECM, etc.etc. Some of the auto parts suppliers offer free code reading like Pepboys, Nappa, Advanced auto parts,etc and some of the guys are very knowledgeable and may have seen the issue often and put you on the right track.
