Power button metal part missing but still working

My I-Phone 3G power button fell off and lost it. I still can turn it on and off by reaching in and just pressing the "round" contact which lies under the power button with a thin object. I had ordered a new power button. Is it possible to replace just this metal top part or do I need to disassemble the whole phone.

You need to take the phone apart to get to power button follow guide for headphone Jack but rather than taking entire flex off, you should just be able to take power button assembly off. Silver ring sits in little slot facing down. Don't overtighten screws
