turn off predictive text mode in settings

Hello,

this morning I bought my dad (who is not computer minded at all) a simple cell phone too replace the old one. This new cellphone is a Alcatel 2051D. This is not a smartphone.

For sending text messages there is this problem.

Predictive text mode must be turned off, Otherwise its too confusing for him. THe only way I found to change the text mode is by pressing * a few times. But that would be too confusing for my parents.

I don't find a place in the setting to turn off preditive text.

Can anyone help me?

Kind regards

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I bought myself a new mobile phone last week. It's not a smartphone because I too am not computer minded, but try as I do I cannot delete the predicted text. It is frustrating, confusing and extremely annoying. I wish they would not do these things!

Hi @patriciaewalker,

What is the make and model number of your phone?

In a text message, tap the + next to the predictive text (predictive options. emojis etc. should slide up) then tap the settings gear wheel, and then tap autocorrect to turn this off. Hopefully, job done, it worked for me and you still get predictive text offered, and also this is a global setting.

Regards. Andy C.

First go to setting and under that go to system (languages then language and Input tap Virtual Keyboard. Tap on the name of the keyboard - in this case Google Keyboard and you will see all the available settings. To turn off predictive text, tap Text correction and then at the bottom of the next screen, turn off "Next-word suggestions". this is for android.

Do it in message screen. Click "*" button few times and look at text in upper right corner. Change this text to "abc" - thats all. You have disable T9 mode.

This only disable predictive text for that message NOT for every message which is what people want. Alcatel say predictive text is a "feature of this phone" and can not be permanently turned off

For alcatel model 4044 you go in to settings then scroll right for more options. Go down to input methods and select t9 push ok and select off.

Hey, changing the text/typing mode to "abc" does the job. I have a Model A406DL. 'Will just have to remember to do this for every text response. The "predictive text" feature is truly awful--and useless, or worse. Thanks, all, for your info.!

I had the same challenge, being totally flummoxed by total lack of documentation.

However, if you watch the text in the upper right corner of the text window, you will see an indication of which "shift" the phone is in along with the count of characters entered/remaining. There is around ten of them. If supplied with a magnifier, your parents might be able to follow them. What the difference is should be easy to describe, perhaps except for the two predictive case shifts.

Not sure what model I just did this on but I disabled predictive text on an Alcatel phone by going into phone settings, language and instead of selecting English select Auto. This stopped predictive text, go figure?
