Display doesn't want to turn on sometimes

So here's the deal guys.

I've had my Samsung s5 for about an year now. And it's been a month or so that I get an awful annoying problem.

The problem is that about 5 or 6 times a day when I try to unlock my screen I get only blackness with a little flickering light at the top of the screen from the left to the right side.

The only "fix" that I know is either trying to unlock it about 50 times one after another or taking out my battery and holding the power button for a minute(Googled it). But that's just a temporary fix. So guys and girls if you could tell me something helpful that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried factory resetting the phone (you will lose all user data on the phone if you do it of course) and/or updating the android system software?

Sounds like a software related issue to me. Could be a bad app causing it most likely.
