Niche question: Smashed locked screen. How 2 retrieve unbacked up data

Hi, I believe I may know the answer already which is why I am unable to use the available software but fingers crossed someone has an answer!

- iPhone dropped on the floor and screen smashed. Passcode is required which can't be input so therefore cannot use iTunes or Image Capture on Mac to retrieve photos.

- Latest backup to my mac of the phone was only a month ago so I have the majority of the data. However, in that month I have travelled a country and so there are still valuable photos on there which I would like to retrieve.

- iCloud wasn't backing up as the wifi in the country I was in was terrible

All software I download seems to be unable to use the iPhone due to password and the backups are too old to contain the photos I need.

Is it possible to retrieve these photos prior to fixing the screen with some software? (Claiming on insurance so therefore have to send the phone back to the UK to be fixed. If they can't fix it then they replace it and I lose everything). I only need the photos if that helps in any way.

Fair enough. Thats what I thought the answer was. I read on another site that there was a way to alter your mac to view the phone as a camera which was my only hope. This was dated as 4 years ago though. Guess I'll have to send it home and hope they can fix the phone. Otherwise they'll just send out a new phone to replace. Thanks for your help.
