iPad 2 backlight turns off after Apple logo
My iPad backlight turns off after the Apple logo. What can I do?
I replaced the broken digitizer and noticed that the mic didn't work, so I didn't glue the digitizer (iPad lives in Survivor case) until I got the replacement. After six months of working perfectly fine (with no mic), I installed the replacement and then the backlight stopped working. Works fine for 30 seconds and then turns off.
I checked the settings and it looks fine (auto-adjust is off, brightness set to maximum). I replaced the headphone and front camera assembly and the new one didn't work either. Headphones work fine, mic works fine now as well, it's the camera which doesn't. It's been suggested that the ambient light sensor (ALS, shiny square on top of the front camera module) is damaged, but I can't test it.
I already sought through the site and I found this question but no answers to it. This iPad will be fixed or die trying. I'm willing to try something as extreme as shorting the ALS, but I haven't found the pinouts. I don't care for the front camera, I just use this iPad for sheet music, comics, pdfs and netflix, all of which are nearly impossible with no backlight.
Suggestions? Ideas? Donation of parts? Offers to buy my otherwise-working-fine iPad? Thank you for your help.
Is this a good question?

I'm thinking of shorting the ALS to fix this. My iPad takes about 2:30 to boot, the screen goes dim after about 1:20. I shorted the ALS and got a nice backlight going on for 2 minutes... then the screen flashed white and the iPad rebooted. I'm going to try with a resistor.
