How do you properly store a punctured lithium ion battery?

I was working on my iPhone 5c late at night and while removing the battery I noticed that I may have punctured it.

Any locations near me that dispose of these are currently closed and will not open until morning, so my question is if its okay to leave these overnight and if so, how do I properly store it?

iPhone batteries are self sealing. If you look at the puncture, you will see a metallic substance around the wound.

There is no reason to treat it any different than you would a different battery. If its not hot or swollen, its fine.

Your best solution is to put the battery in a fireproof container. A battery like this is a potential fire hazard and should be isolated to prevent property damage in the event it does catch fire. RC folks use fireproof charging bags to protect against these types of situations It is also a good idea to put it in a well ventilated area in the event that it does catch fire. Hope this helps

I agree. We put our old batteries in a an Lysol wipes container or bleach container, but we always put a piece of tape on the positive side.
