Why are none of my HDMI inputs working?

Manufacturer: Mitsubishi

Model: WD-Y57

Manufacture Date: August 2006

Firmware Version: V33Y 008.01

Issue:

Neither HDMI input displays the source connected to it, instead showing a blue screen.

History:

I initially received this TV from a friend who's workplace didn't want to bother selling the TV, so sadly I can't speak to what ultimately preceded the HDMI inputs not working. When I received it I noticed that neither HDMI port was working, and both just displayed blue screens. However the component and DVI inputs all worked so I opted to just use those.

After research on the internet, I discovered the likely culprit was the mainboard. After looking at the HDMI ports with a flash light I confirmed that the HDMI inputs themselves actually appeared damaged (bent pins, pushed back into the connector). So I went to eBay and ordered a board that was listed as confirmed and tested working.

Once the board arrived, I downloaded the service manual for the WD-Y57 and followed the instructions to replace the mainboard (including migrating the PWB-E2B from the old mainboard to the new one, and then copying the light engine E2PROM to DM and WB alignment to FMT). However after reassembly I appear to be in the same situation. Both HDMI ports still display blue screens.

Service manual in hand (https://www.manualslib.com/manual/800881...), I opted to:

1.) Reset user settings via INPUT & FORMAT on the front of the TV.. Still no joy.

2.) Reset all settings via hidden menu (MENU -> 2470 -> Initialize).. Still no joy.

3.) Reset all user settings via hidden menu (MENU -> 123).. Still no joy.

Very strangely, after doing the above resets the TV will see that an HDMI device is connected to a given HDMI port via the Input Auto Sensing feature, however when you switch to that input it's just a blue screen.

So now I'm stumped. Is the replacement board that I ordered defective? Is there something else I'm overlooking. I checked the wiring diagram in the back of the service manual and the only thing I see is that the HDMI input is processed by IC2004 HDMI Select -> IC2000 HDMI Proc.. But I'm unsure how to test if either of those are functional.

I'm using a Playstation 4 which works on two other TV's and an XBOX One which works on two other TV's to do my HDMI testing. I've tried three different cables which all work on the other two TV's.

Question:

Is my new mainboard defective? Or am I overlooking something?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I had a similar situation with HDMI ports all being dead and was able to resolve it by doing a hard reset on the TV . Pull the plug and with the power disconnected hold the power button on for 60 seconds. After at least the 60 seconds plug the tv in and try to start it. If it works great if not , hold the power button in the on position for a count of 20 with the tv plugged in . If theres still no Joy try power with one of your volume buttons at the same time . One of these should provide a hard reset for the tv. Hopefully this will reset the HDMI outputs to default setting . Hope this helps

Thank you for the response!

I tried your suggestions, here were the results.

1.) I powered off the TV and after the lamp cooled off I unplugged it. From here I held the power button on the front of the TV for 65 seconds, then stopped holding it. Plugged it back in and no joy.

2.) I'm not sure if the TV was to be on or off for holding the power button.. so I tried both. I held it for 20 seconds powering it off, then powered it back on. No dice. Then I tried from the TV being off and held the power button for 20 seconds.. It powered on while I was still holding it but once I got to 25 seconds I released. No dice.

3.) Again I wasn't sure if you meant I should start from on or off here but I tried both ways..with both volume up and volume down but still no joy, sadly. :(

@tytalus I wonder if this "HDMI device is connected to a given HDMI port via the Input Auto Sensing feature, however when you switch to that input it's just a blue screen." is not related to a Firmware or EEPROM issue. Check to see the TV’s software version. It is displayed at the upper right side of the Setup menu. I'd check on the Mitsubishi site and see if there is an updated version for your model.

I'm on V33Y 008.01 firmware according to the Setup Menu screen.

I checked earlier for firmware hoping that was the issue. The Mitsubishi site didn't indicate there was anything available to download, just an owners guide. Here's the place I landed when searching earlier. If you know somewhere else to get firmware please let me know.

@tytalus I will check to see if any of my usual sources have any firmware update.

I have had my tv for years and it worked fine, the HDMI just went out and I am now getting a blue screen. it is sensing the HDMI inputs but nothing. I have had my blu ray player and cable box connected for years with no issues, until now.

@al3464 try a different HDMI cable and different port if your TV has one. If that does not work then your TV is having issues with the HDMI port on the main board.
