iPhone 5c not activating

So this iphone 5c looks and seems to be functioning well but it's stuck in the activation screen. It says 3g and some black dots so looks like signal top left. But there is no Wi-Fi icon. So I assume that possibly the Wi-Fi antenna is broken? But surely the mobile signal should activate it anyway? So more is wrong? Thanks

Block Image

well here is a photo inside and immediately I see some kind of white stuff on the charging port almost like yogurt. I think maybe I can change that if it's worth it?

There is some sand but there's not really corrosion I think but I've not studied it in detail yet.

Anyone? I'm willing to replace some bits just don't want to do the wrong bits. Tnx

Ok different cord and no firewall and the same which is weird because the Apple technician managed to go straight through to the restore and other options page were as I can't but it is a Windows machine here at home.

Is this your phone or a customer's phone?

Shall I replace the lightning port maybe? Tnx

Well I bought it as broken I wanted to learn by exploring it I've already looked at fix tutorials and finished fixing a iphone 6 so I'm a bit new!

Try it on different cords. I would suggest an apple oem cord. You can also try different ports on your pc, or a different pc

Hmm well it's an Apple certified cord and other Apple devices are working fine iTunes is detecting the phone it just tells me there a problem...I'll try disabling firewall quickly...

by

Ah I did have it on...now with it off an error 0xE8000065 came up.

by

0xE8000065 seems to be a communication error. Either the drivers on your computer are corrupted, or there is something wrong with the sync cable or dock connector on your phone.

by

You think it could be an issue with the Lightning dock? @lorre851

by

@theimedic It might be, since the only thing I can find on this error code is a 'general USB communication error'.

Normally if you have a SIM card in and are able to connect to a 3G network, you should be able to activate.

If your iPhone says "activation currently unavailable" or something like that, try connecting it to a computer and activating it through iTunes. It might fail too, but at least iTunes will give you a more detailled error on why the activation has failed. If we have an error message we can try isolate the source of the problem :)

Ok thanks. Well this is on a Windows 10 machine with iTunes. But if I plug it in it says there is a problem with your iphone. Take it to service center...etc. Which I have but they didn't really help. Probably should add that if I click activate over Wi-Fi it doesn't see any networks. Thanks

by

Hm, could be a bad USB cable. Does it give any error code at all (like "ERROR 1002" or something)? Or does it just straight up tell you to take it to a service center? Because I have never seen such a message before.

Seeing that iTunes makes such a fuss about it, I fear there's a deeper problem here than just the Wi-Fi antenna.

Hmm well I saw something about renaming but I can't do this it is called 'iphone' tricky....
