WiFi Connection only possible directly next to the router

Hello, I've got an Acer Notebook here. I have the same WiFi signal with it like with every other device, but a connection to the WiFi is only possible if the notebook is directly next to the router. 20m away I still get 4 of 5 bars signal, but the connection isn't possible. I already tried upgrading from W8 to W10, updating/deleting/reinstalling the drivers, different WiFi networks... Still the same Problem.

Could the WiFi Card be damaged and has to be replaced?

I also disconnected and reconnected the cables, but still no success. Should I replace the WiFi Card?

Those 2 cables attached to the WiFi card are antenna cables. They should go into the laptop's lid between the actual LCD and the plastic lid. Trace the cable all the way. I have read somewhere that there is a manufacture defect where the hinge damages this antenna cable. This is likely what you need to change. The antenna cable, not the WiFi card.

Hi @websoluteat

I'm just wondering why the signal strength would be 4 out of 5 at 20 metres if the antennas were faulty.

Maybe I have misread your question and if so apologies but have you uninstalled the WLAN adapter in Device Manager (not just the drivers) and then restarted the laptop and allowed Windows to reinstall it?

Hi @jayeff

I'm sorry, my english isn't the best. I have tried uninstalling the WiFi adapter, I allowed windows to reinstall it and I also tried some other drivers but none of them were working.

@avanteguarde how do I know if the antenna cable is damaged or the card is faulty? And where do I get such a cable? Is there a part number or something like that?

I just found this thread: http://community.acer.com/t5/V-and-VN-Se...

If anyone else comes across this problem, this might help you. Changing the black and the white cable on the wifi card, you might lose bluetooth but in my opinion it's better than not having working wifi.

I have the same problem with my Atheros network card in my Aspire V5-572P.

Replace the antenna cable that is cut (pair: black and white); And still the signal is heavy. I do not know if it is a motherboard incompatibility with the atheros card which reduces power to the Wlan.

If anyone has any solutions please post it.

Hi @patitoblanco

Have you got the latest WLAN drivers applicable to your OS installed? Here is a link https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/su... select the correct OS and scroll down to WLAN Atheros driver for the download link.

Also have you tried uninstalling the WLAN in Device Manager (Go to Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > right click on the Atheros entry and select Uninstall. Restart the laptop and let Windows "find" the new hardware.
