Cannot get to the password page to give me access to the laptop

Downloaded music last night. Turned the laptop on this morning. I've got a pretty picture time and date but not the box that lets you put in your password to access all files. Please help.

Hi,

Try pressing the Enter key on the keyboard to bring up the password box.

Hi,

Try waking the laptop and then when laptop is up and running press and hold the power button (until it shuts down completely) to force close it. You will probably get an error message on next start up about not shutting down properly but just start normally and see if it works .

I've held it down. It doesn't shut down fully just goes into sleep mode.

Hi, Try pressing F11 on startup and see if that gets you into the Windows Recovery Environment.

If it does then select Troubleshoot > Advanced > Startup Repair and follow the prompts.

Do Not select reset as this will reinstall windows and may erase your personal data.

If you cannot get into the Recovery environment if you are using Win 10 (or 8.1) you can create a recovery USB drive from another pc/laptop using the same OS and then boot from and then repair the startup in your laptop.

Go to Control panel > recovery > create recovery drive, in the other laptop/pc. You will need an 8GB USB flash drive and about 1 hour to create it.
