Help to fix HDD/SSD Password

Hi. There i just get this problem 5 hour ago,

i am using my computer with windows 10, while i am using it, it hang for some seconds

and show a blue screen but i didn't read the error message, so the system restart as blue screen normally use to do, when it restart it shows me no boot or hard disk detected, i check the hard disk and put it back and power on the system back, it started showing me HDD/SDD Password, now if i press esc key it will show a blank screen with an underscore not blinking and that's how the computer will stay until i turn off the system, if i try to press F9 or F2 or F12 nothing will happen, so i remove the hard drive and insert it in external enclosure the hard drive won't spin.

Please i need a clue.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

abbaty.abdul I wonder if the original removal of the HDD from your computer and the subsequent re-installation triggered the HDD password to pop up. It should at least spin up. It may be your enclosure. The flashing underscore means that you computer cannot find an OS and does hang. Reinstall your HDD into your computer and see if you can access the BIOS. Try this after:

1. Using SETUP BIOS (i.e. start machine; Hold Esc; Press F1), Tab to the HDD Password section which should be displayed as follows:

HDD Password

HDD = Built-in HDD

HDD Password Mode = USER Only

User Password = Registered

2. Tab to the "User Password" field and simply enter the old password and then a new one twice (once to verify) as one would do normally. If you don't want a password, just press "enter" twice

So when I hold escape and hit f1 on bootup nothing happens? Why?

Windoz..........If the HDD is in the unit and Windoz cannot talk to it, the system will just sit there waiting for the HDD to respond. Try booting to BIOS without the HDD connected. U could create a Linux USB drive and boot from that to verify the computer is OK. Disconnect the HDD first.

If the HDD does not spin up in and external enclosure, then it is dead. Just make sure u are using a dual head USB connector so that u are getting enough power to the HDD.

If the hard drive is not showing up when using an enclosure and asking you for a password when booting up, it sounds like you have some type of hard drive encryption software installed. The only way to remove the encryption software is to type in the password you used to setup the encryption, get to a Windows desktop, and remove the encryption. If you can't remember your encryption password then it appears your data is locked forever.

i have a question, if the hard drive has an encryption installed on it, why the hard drive is not spinning, not showing and even no sound if i plug it.

by

If it won't spin up then it is not encrypted. Sounds like drive failure. You can try one of two things, the freezer test or PCB board replacement. It could be something simple as a bad PCB board. You may have to replace your hard drive.

if it isn't spinning, the drive has died. Freezing it is a potential temporary fix for an alignment issue. A bad PCB isn't simple since there is info stored on it specific to the discs of that HDD. Replacing the PCB might make it spin again, but reading the data on the discs likely won't happen - of course you could get lucky.

Time to replace the HDD and go to your backup - you do have one, don't you?
