Yes! All USB standards are forwards and backwards compatible, with exception of USB 3.1 which uses a smaller conector. If your laptop doesn't have USB 3.0 do not fear, because any USB 2.0 plug is forward compatible with USB 3.0. The transfer speed of USB 2.0 is slower, but it is still compatible with USB 3.0 devices.
