Hold switch is broken/loose

Looking into replacing the battery and possibly repairing the hold switch on my 10 year-old iPod.

My question is, can I pop open my iPod without the hold button in the locked position like the repair guide states?

Before opening your iPod, ensure that the hold switch is in the locked position. The slider should be all the way to the right if your iPod is facing you.

It still plays great for an old device, but I don't want to cause further damage. And I do have the proper tools and patience for the process.

Chelsey Cain yes you can. You will not run into any issues. The reason for that is a precaution so you do not spin up the HDD. So try and limit pushing the clickwheel etc. Really no big deal, done it many times without any issues.
