What is this tape used on the GPU Card?

Hi guys,

While removing the Radeon GPU card on my iMac, i accidentally broke this piece of silver coloured tape and would like to replace it. Anyone has any idea what is the type / purpose of this tape?

It's for static electricity, or rather prevents electromagnetic energy from interfering with your hardware. As for where to purchase, you're gonna be hard pressed because something as "insignificant" as that isn't expensive enough to sell for individual purchase. There are websites that sell electromagnetic tape (http://www.lessemf.com/computer.html), that could work but if you've just punctured it and not tore it entirely then I wouldn't risk replacing it with that. It'll still serve it's purpose if it's not torn completely in half. Hope this helps!

Let me make a slight correction here the foil shield is for radio emissions (EMI) control not static (ESD) protection. Electromagnetic tape is Ferris (iron dust) which is not needed here. It only effects the radio spectrum not microwave which is why metal foil was used here.

You can make your own here using flue tape (aluminum foil tape) from Home Depot and some kapton tape from IFIXIT. Place a piece of K tape down on your desk and then cover it with the flue tape then cut it to size using the old piece as a template. You want to make sure you don't short anything.
