Loose power / volume buttons

Hello i have an IP4, i was looking aroud to find a solution to my problem. I got loose power/sleep and volume buttons on my iphone, and apple store won't replace it, since no functionality issue has been found.

How can i avoid the boring rattle/play with my buttons without COMPLETELY disassembling the device?

Is it better to disguise the button issue with an antenna issue and make the apple store change the device or is it possible for a newbie to fix this problem?

Thank you in advance

Chosen Solution

I have not tried this with the volume buttons but my power/sleep button was an easy fix. First I removed the back plate. I then just used tweezers to slide a small ~2 - 3 mm square piece of 20 lb printer paper in between the stainless button and the contact (there is access if you wiggle the paper around). Seems to have fixed the rattling and I still get an good tactile click with the button. I had to adjust the size and position of the paper a few times before I got a good click and it's probably a good idea to leave enough paper exposed so as to be able to remove it as necessary. It only took a minute to open the back using ifixit's instructions and it has solved a problem that has bugged me for months. Make sure the paper doesn't lay over the outer stainless edge, else it may not let the glass back plate lay flush upon reinstall. I just accomplished this so I have no idea about long term durability. Paper is probably a bad idea for this type of solution so proceed at your own risk. I would prefer to put a small piece of plastic in there if I can find one that shims it up correctly.
