Unable to remove screen to replace it

I am following the screen replacement guide for the iPod Touch 5th Gen and cannot for the life of me pry the screen off with the hairdryer and suction cups. I've already broken one suction cup, and the last one I own is stretching to the point where I'm certain it will break soon, as well.

I've taped the screen and used a hair dryer on low and high for varying degrees of time to try and pry the screen off, but it never budges...

Am I missing something?

Are you heating near the home button and the adhesive around it?

Yes, I've kept the heat on each side of the home button, from the screen side, and even the edges, as I was trying to pry at the same time, sometimes. Each time the cup would pop off before the screen would. I can see the home button and screen starting to pull up, but the adhesive never seems to break...

There is a lot of adhesive and if it is the original adhesive, quite strong. I use a heat mat to get the temperature up to ~60-70C. That is about the same as hot water direct form the water heater (assuming you are in NA). So be patient when you heat the iPod with a hair dryer and touch occasionally. Once it gets to the point where you cant comfortably leave your finger on the screen, then use the suction cup. A plastic pry tool helps too.
