Should I replace the whole display assembly or just the LCD panel?

So I accidentaly had my Macbook Pro screen cracked, The area around the crack got blackened out, along with tears both horizontally and vertically towards it:

The only LCD panel is considerably cheaper than the whole assembly but does not include backlight, which I don't know if it too got damaged or not. Please help me find out which one I need to buy and replace: the whole display assembly or only the LCD screen. Many thanks.

Review this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown. While this is for the 15" the 13" is no different.

Frankly, I think its just wiser to replace the whole lid assembly if you've not done this before. As you can see even the IFIXIT team damaged the display in the process.
