Water damaged i-phone 3G 16GB phone

Hi. Phone had been accidentally placed in washing machine and did not charge using the i-phone charger, even overnight. Used a "c-squid from Amazon" which was supposed to charge better. Actually got enough charge to get the logos on my screen but still does not fully charge (always shows red battery). Would stay on for about 15 mins and can use my SIM card from my current phone to make calls. Tried to change the battery, but still does not charge fully. Would changing the connecting dock help? Have not tried to clean up using the alcohol yet. Should I do that first? Did not note any residue on the inside when I opened it. Have just ordered the dock port, so will let you know if that works. If not, any other advise? Thx.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Cleaning it out with alcohol will probably help. I've never heard of the c-squid, but the USB cable should work just fine. Does it show that it's charging (lightning bolt in battery icon) when you plug it in to the c-squid or computer?

Yes it does. Started to charge and even went as far as going to main page, so, being the brilliant guy that I am, decided to get rid of all the data on the phone. Now, I charge it overnight and when I switch it on, it tells me to connect to i-tunes. The good news is that it recognizes the phone, and goes through the process, but before it can complete the download, my phone dies out and it keeps saying that there was an error. Will try cleaning it with alcohol today and see if it does anything.

Cleaned with alcohol. Changed battery and the charging dock. Still does not charge fully. Any other recommendations, other than scrapping the i-phone?
