craftsman lt2000 transmission problem

I have an lt2000. I no longer have 5th or 6th gear and sometimes reverse. When reverse does not work, the engine sounds like it is under load and begins to smoke. Shifter works fine, 1,2,3,4 work.

Sounds like you've broken some gears in the box. but first check to see if the linkage is ok and that nothing is bent and preventing a proper shift . If all is sound with the linkage then the internal works of the gearbox are in question . If your comfortable removing the gearbox and opening it then go ahead . Odds are you will find a gear or to with broken teeth or it could be just one tooth broken that's become lodged in the wrong spot. jamming the gears or causing the gear to bind as it turns causing a need for more power. If your not comfortable with the idea of opening the gearbox then find a small engine mechanic who can do the job for you . Don't leave it too long because if I'm right the pieces can cause more damage to other gears and instead of replacing one or two gear plates you'll end up replacing more. Hope this helps

I have a Craftsman lt2000 that all of sudden won’t move when pressing the gas pedal. The linkage looks good and all belts seem to be on their pulleys.
