Is this a power cord issue?

I have a 360 that was recently brought back from the red rings. and after about 2 hours of playing the unit powered down when I tried to turn it back on (expecting to see the RROD nothing happened, then I looked at the power supply and the light was red.

I found out that this is an overheating issue.

One question is I have a 175 watt power brick is there supposed to be a fan going in there to keep it cool??

Secondly would I be better off with one of the 203 watt?, and would it be compatible with my 360 (arcade I think made in 2006.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer this question I have this problem too

The power supply does get hot, and if it is in an area that is not well ventilated it can cause this problem. Simply by touching it, you should be able to tell if it is very hot. I would look up the article provided by microsoft which states that the problem can occur when:#

1. There is too much current.

2. The voltage is too high.

3. The temperature of the power supply is too high.

If unplugging and letting it sit for about half an hour does not help alleviate the situation, then I would just replace the power supply, since messing around in with the block could result in a blown fuse or worse, and the price for a new or used one is not that bad.

From my experience, not all of their PSU blocks with work with the Xbox you have. There are two different PSU for the original Xbox 360; the one is grounded and one is not. The plugs on both versions are the same size, but have a different layout. You should be able to find a replacement power supply from GameStop or eBay.
