How to remove foreign object from sim reader

Hello,

I got a 5c here with a piece of the sim tray stuck in the reader. Other that that it works fine, but I can't use it because I can't insert a SIM card. How would I get it out?

You more than likely have to open your iPhone and get the foreign object out with the help of a spudger (don'tuse sharp objects on the SIM slot when doing that because you might damage the delicate pins.

To take your iPhone 5C apart you can use your 5 point pentalobe screwdriver (I highly advise to use iFixit's liberation kit) and you can either use an iSclack to open it just enough or a spudger+suction cup combo to open it up. Don't remove the screen right away as you have a metal shield over the LCD connectors that you need to unscrew and remove (take notes of the exact screw places) and pry up the LCD connectors (make sure not to pry the socket itself) with the screen removed it's much easier to work on removing the foreign object off of the SIM slot. Good luck!

Thank you, I knew I was going to have to open it up but I was scared I was going to break the sim reader.

I was thinking of sliding something to push the pins down then using another tool to push the foreign object out.

Surely there is a way to remove the metal cover of the sim card tray without breaking it?

You're very welcome! Hope you manage to solve your problem :)

Ben, I don't think that's a good idea as the likelihood of damaging the pins are very high. You can't remove the metal shield above the reader, the holes in it give just enough grounding manoeuvre to take the object out.
