Spin cycle stops halfway through and then restarts.

Spin cycle stops halfway through and then restarts. It does this with a full load but not if I run the spin cycle with the washer empty.

Cause 1

Drive Belt

Inspect the drive belt to determine if it is broken or if it is loose on the pulleys. If the drive belt is broken or loose, replace it.

Cause 2

Motor Coupling

The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. If the washer is overloaded, the motor coupling will fail in order to protect both the motor and transmission. The motor coupling can also fail due to normal wear. Inspect the motor coupling to determine if it is broken. If the motor coupling is broken, replace it.

I don't think anything is broken as the it spins just fine, just that it takes a 6 or 7 second break in the middle of the spin cycle.

Henry, Kenmore 70 series washer, spin cycle stops halfway through and then restarts. It could be a failing/intermittent lid switch, next time you experience the problem open and close lid a few times and see if it starts spin cycle. If lid switch OK, the fault probably the timer switch. If not comfortable testing and diagnosing have a good repairman check, diagnose and estimate repair. Good luck

I had replaced the lid switch a year or two ago, and that's kinda when the problem started. However I shorted out the switch and the problem still occurs. It's a compete stop in the middle of the spin cycle for like 6 or 7 seconds, then it starts up spinning again. Any other ideas?

Henry, I did have a machine that did this and that was it,s normal operation, this allowed the clothes to fall to the bottom of the tub, allowing inner clothes to re position on second spin allowing water to spin out better.
